Sailing the Atlantic Ocean

Arrival to Porto and transfer to Povoa do Varzim. Welcome dinner at a local restaurant. Night on-board.

After breakfast, it is time to set sails and head for the fishing village of Baiona. This day offers sailing along the Portuguese coastline, before crossing the border into Spain at the river Miño. This is also the longest day of sailing from 9.00 am to arrival in Baiona around 20 o’clock in the evening. You will eat lunch on board during your cruise, and in the evening there will be an opportunity to enjoy Baiona’s old quarters, and maybe get some tapas and a glass of wine in one of the many bars. After breakfast get ready to set sail and head toward new adventures. Today’s maritime route takes you among other things to Islas Cies, which is a protected nature park consisting of three small islands in the estuary of The Bay of Vigo. Every day many tourists are arriving to the islands, which among other things are known for having some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, as the Beach of Rodas. But to arrive there on your own private sailboat, anchor, and get on shore, is a very special and beautiful experience. There will be a possibility to hike up to the Faro de Vigo (Vigo Lighthouse), where you will find a breath-taking view of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding fjords. You can choose to have lunch on the beach or on-board, before in the afternoon you set course for Sanxenxo. Sanxenxo is famous for its summer atmosphere and is a place where many Spaniards from Madrid choose to spend their summer holidays. You will sleep on-board.

After breakfast, you will set sail again to be cruising along the impressive coastline in between the two bays, Ria de Aldan and Ria de Arousa. The route takes you towards Illa Arousa, where you will moor in the port of Xufre. Then you will have lunch before sailing again across the bay, towards the Ria de Arousa and the beautiful fishing village of Pobra do Carmiñal, where you will spend the night on-board.

After breakfast continue your sailing in the beautiful Ria de Arousa, which is also the largest of the bays in Las Rías Baixas. Your route will take you from Pobra do Carmiñal to O Grove on the other side of the bay. We suggest that you ask your skipper to berth the boat in Vilanova de Arousa, and then take a taxi to Cambados, which is the official European Wine City 2017. Cambados is a pretty fishing village, which is especially known for being the place where the Albariño wine district originates from. To enjoy a fish or seafood lunch together with a chilled Albariño white wine in this area, is something that really should be tried – at least once in a lifetime! After lunch you will set sail towards today’s final destination, Vilagarcia de Arousa. Accommodation on board.

Today you will disembark your sailboat, to get on-board a motorboat that will take you up the Rio Ulla. You will follow the legendary route, which allegedly also have been the last for Saint James (Apostle Santiago). According to legend, he followed the route before he was buried in Santiago de Compostela. You will sail past the 17 stone crosses that mark the route up upon the Rio Ulla, before you will again feel ground under your feet. There will be time during the evening to enjoy a glass of wine and maybe some tapas. You will spend the last night in a nice boutique hotel.
