The Portuguese Way from Porto

Arrival in Porto and transfer to the hotel in the center of the city. Afterwards, you will make a walking tour of the port area by the hand of an expert local guide, with the possibility of having dinner at a typical restaurant in the area (depending on the time of arrival).

After breakfast, half-day city tour and boat cruise on the Douro River. Visit to some wineries in Porto on the other side of the river.

Today begins your Camino! You will move to Ponte de Lima, with its rustic and medieval architecture, owing its name to the impressive stone bridge over the Lima River. It can be considered the most beautiful stage of the Portuguese Way. You will climb the Labruja River to enter the valley through vineyards, coniferous forests and Romanesque churches.

Crossing the Puente de Rubiaes, another beautiful ford of Roman origin, you will continue your Camino until you reach the beautiful fortified town of Valença do Minho, from where you can see the river Miño and the city of Tui on the other side. You will cross the river through the International Bridge, built in 1886, to set foot for the first time in Spain.

Today you begin the stage from the city of Tui, the starting point of the Portuguese Way in Galicia, and you will culminate in the village of O Porriño. In this stage you can admire the beautiful architecture of the historic center of Tui and the beautiful wooded paths through which you will walk during the day. Once the stage is over, you will move to the coastal village of A Guarda and the Santa Tecla mountain, where you can visit old Celtic buildings and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Stop in Baiona if the time allows. Night in Vigo.

On this tour you will find the Church of Santa Eulalia del Monte and the Pazo de los Marqueses in the parish of Mos, beautiful examples of Galician architecture. Continue your journey through quiet wooded paths until you reach the convent of Villavella in the city of Redondela. Once the stage is over, you will travel to Vigo to enjoy the rest of the afternoon and have some tapas in the old part of the city.

Today you will cross the beautiful Sampaio Bridge, and later a small section of the original Roman road. It borders the Vigo estuary and the Pontevedra estuary and culminates in the city of Pontevedra, capital of the Portuguese Way in Galicia. The Shrine of the Pilgrim MTA, patron saint and symbol of the city, awaits you there.

Today’s stage is one of the most beautiful in the entire Galician section of the Portuguese Way. You will walk through vineyards, small rural hermitages, and chestnut, pine and eucalyptus forests. On your way to Caldas de Reis, you will pass by Muiñada Da Barosa, a beautiful natural enclave with waterfalls and natural pools where you can refresh and rest a little before continuing with your Camino.

You are approaching the end of the Portuguese Way. From Caldas de Reis you cross the Umia River, where you can see the natural hot springs that give the city its name. The Camino continues through the beautiful Bermaña valley and its centennial forest. The stage culminates in the emblematic town of Padrón where, according to legend, landed the stone boat, in which his disciples moved the body of the Apostle from Palestine to Galicia.

With each step you get closer and closer to Santiago. You will walk through several villages until you reach the historic sanctuary of A Escravitude. Then you will continue your journey to the chapel of San Martiño where you can admire one of the oldest crosses in Galicia. Obligatory stop in O ‘Milladoiro to contemplate the city of Santiago, and from there, walk the last 6 kilometers of the Portuguese route and reach the beautiful city of Santiago full of great joy. Afternoon to rest, and at night a wonderful surprise accompanied by delicious dinner to celebrate your arrival.

After a well-deserved rest and an appetizing breakfast, a local guide will take you on a route to the Cathedral of Santiago, to explore its interior and its roofs. You will walk through its impressive Casco Vello, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, you will have fun participating in a Galician cooking class, and you will have dinner of what you have cooked with your own hands.

After breakfast, head to one of the most beautiful places in Galicia, the wine region of the Ribeira Sacra. Upon arrival, you will make a small trekking route to a beautiful “mirador” to have a first view of the impressive canyons of the Sil River from above. Then you will have a wine tasting and lunch in one of the best wineries in the area. After checking into a special manor, you will take a guided tour of the monasteries in the area. Dinner at the accommodation.

After breakfast, you will board a private boat for a tour of the Sil river canyons. You will learn about the difficulty of the harvest due to the slope of the land, and the magnificent red wine that has become very popular in the last five years. You will also have a wine tasting on board and have lunch at a local winery. Dinner at the accommodation.

After breakfast, transfer to your departure airport for the flight back home.
